Worrying is the misuse of your imagination
Worrying can take a massive toll on not only your mental health but also your physical health. It can take away all your emotional energy, making you feel restless and would not let you concentrate either (I've been there!).
Worry is indeed a misuse of your imagination. It's a sheer waste of time. Stop worrying about the future. You're just taking double the stress, and not getting anything productive out of it. Worry is like a rocking chair - it gives you something to do but gets you nowhere.I agree, it is beyond our control to actually worry. In fact, it's quite normal. But just because it's normal doesn't mean that we should be normalizing it in our lives. This "normal worry" can get uncontrollable if it becomes persistent, and we don't want that, right? So how do you stop worrying?
1. Vent it out - Journal it, write your worries down in a notebook. This can substantially help reduce the burden off your mind. Remind yourself to think about it later.
2. Schedule a time to worry - this might sound insane, but this can actually help calm you down a lot. Keep this time period in the middle of the day. This will help you to be worry-free the rest of the day. You could go through what you vented in your journal during this time frame.
3. Challenge your negative thoughts - Negative thoughts can be a source of worry - and instead of escaping from them - we can actually face them & challenge them - in this way, you'll be able to overcome such thoughts.
4. If the worry is solvable, brainstorm it. If it's not solvable, accept the uncertainty.
5. Distract - If you're going through excessive worrying - you could channelize this energy into exercising, meditation, yoga, and much more.
6. Talk it out - talk about your worries to someone you trust. This can really help relieve you. And who knows, they might even come up with a great solution
7. Practice Mindfulness - acknowledge and accept your worries, observe and analyze them with an open mind. Self-introspection can help too. Disengage with your worries too, since it can get extremely overwhelming. Focus on the present. Practice this every day, consistently.
Worries can be really worrying, especially in these testing times, but don't worry, with self-care and mindfulness, you can overcome these challenging emotions.
